6 Ways to Celebrate National Small Business Week
Tuesday, April 19, 2016
Every year, since 1963, in the United States, the national Small Business Administration (SBA) has taken a week to celebrate all the country’s small companies. This week is a recognition of their contribution to the economy – 60 percent of the workforce, 40 percent of the payrolls – and the role they play in building a strong nation, overall.
In 2016, from May 1st – 7th, these 20 to 30 million small operations will get a celebration that includes events in Miami, Los Angeles, New York City, and Washington, D.C, complete with speakers, symposiums, and so much more.
As a business owner, there are things that you can also do to honor the entrepreneurs of the U.S. economy, and show your American spirit too:
Offer a Sale or Discount
Everyone loves a holiday sale. When they see the words “In honor of small businesses, we want you to save more…” in some new marketing email, flyer, coupon, or ad, they respond better; showing great enthusiasm with their purchasing power. Jumping aboard the small business train can also get you the right kind of exposure (especially if you yourself are a small business) and that means growth.
Recognize an Employee
Is there one go-to employee on your staff that makes everything easier? Follow the SBA’s lead and honor them with the special spotlight they deserve and build company loyalty. You could even make it an annual event!
Start a New Initiative
If you’ve been putting off that big jump into something new, then 2016 is your time! The theme for this year’s celebration from the SBA is “Dream Big. Start Small.” Why not follow that advice and take your operation into a newer, bolder direction.
Send Your Employees to Attend A National Event
There are events for Small Business Week on both coasts, and in our nation’s capital. See what they are all about by sending some of your people to investigate, reconnoiter, and even network with new, potential clients!
Donate to Kickstarter or an Entrepreneur
Kickstarter and other online sites like it are a place where entrepreneurs from all over the world seek financing to get their dreams off of the ground. Find a newcomer in your field (or a totally new one) and contribute to help make that spark ignite.
Give Your Employees the Day Off
It’s a simple gesture, sure, but with resoundingly positive ramifications.
