Building an Organization

“Eleven years ago I decided to leave corporate America as a CEO, to fulfill my dream of being an entrepreneur. It was a big decision at the time for my family, but one we have never regretted.

After analyzing numerous Franchise and non-Franchise businesses, we went with Cartridge World.  I chose them because they were the worldwide leader in the $80 billion ink and toner printer cartridge market, and offered a highly consumable product that is perfect for an unpredictable economy.

By offering savings of up to 30% over the big box stores AND providing local, hands on expertise, I could save clients significant dollars and create a valuable, growth-oriented business.

In Jan of 2005 I bought my first Cartridge World store in West Warwick, Rhode Island. Since then I have started and acquired several more and also acquired the New England Territory as a Franchisor. Today I own several locations, and am now developing the New England Region…from CT to ME!

The Cartridge World model works very well because of the ability to build an organization. We employ sales personnel, technicians, retail personnel, drivers, marketing and admin personnel and operations managers. We have consistently been one of the top performing stores in the United States, and we are continuing to evolve into the printer solutions arena ─ which continues to grow.  We feel the Cartridge World model is the best alternative to the food/learning center/yogurt and retail-only concepts”.

Among the Top 10%

Twelve years ago, Karrie Holland was looking for an investment opportunity. After reading an interesting magazine article about the Cartridge World business model, and talking with multiple franchisees, she opened two Cartridge World franchises.

Fast forward to today. Her stores are among the top 10 percent retail and B2B operations across the United States. She attributes the success to consistent marketing practices along with offering expanded products and services that make it easy for customers to buy from them.

Former Baseball Manager Hits a Home Run

Bill was a minor league baseball manager for 17 years before he hung up his glove to work full-time on his own business and spend more time with the team he loves the best: his family.

Franchising provides a proven formula for success. The support the corporate office provides to franchisees is vital to our success, and it allows us to accomplish what otherwise might be impossible without their support.

Cartridge World of Glen Allen was well run by the previous owners. I purchased an existing franchise that had been in operation for 10 years, and I was able to step into something that already had a successful track record. As a company, Cartridge World is very B2B focused, and that allows me the ability to utilize many of my same contacts within the region and grow the business. The B2B aspect was the driving force behind the business specifically.

Before investing in Cartridge World, I spoke with people who had knowledge of office-products businesses, but the majority of my research was done online. Do your research and be sure you are making a decision that you can be happy with 10 years down the road, because owning a business is similar to a marriage, and you have to love your partner.

I hope to grow my business to a point where I can take a step back from day-to-day work and focus on the more long-term, strategic plan for the business. In other words, work on the business, not in the business. But, first and foremost, my priority is growing the business. Nobody ever got in trouble for having too much revenue!
