Top Movies of Summer 2016
Thursday July 7, 2016
Hollywood has already delivered some amazing films in 2016 – Zootopia, Swiss Army Man, The Jungle Book, The Witch – every one of these films has something to offer the American movie goer.
But now, it’s the summer time! The kids are out of school, the dates are in full swing, and people have the time, money, and inclination to head out and pay the average $14 price tag for some raucous cinematic enjoyment. With Captain America: Civil War and X-Men Apocalypse kicking things off in high gear, this summer’s remaining movie lineup doesn’t seem to be slowing down one bit.
Here are some of the top movies you can look forward to (or just run out and watch) when that summer sun sinks low:
This game-based CGI masterpiece has been in theaters less than a month and it is already lauded as the highest-grossing video game movie of all time. It is the story of a group of green-skinned nomadic warriors called orcs who are looking for another world to inhabit, as theirs is dying. The only problem is, they’re taking it by force. Will the human citizens of Azeroth have the strength and numbers to defy the orc’s advances? The answer is a non-stop thrill ride of fantasy action.
- Finding Dory:
The sequel, or rather prequel (Hollywood’s loving that these days), to Disney/Pixar’s smash hit, Finding Nemo, Finding Dory tells the a-dory-bul (sorry, I had to) origin story of everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang fish and her search for her lost parents. Finding Dory is shaping up to be the feel-good hit of the season.
- The Shallows:
The Shallows, starring Blake Lively, is a non-stop thrill ride of suspense and gruesome survival, as a smart and savvy surfer girl faces off against nature’s perfect killing machine, a giant great white shark. While the computer does most of the swimming, it is a faithful homage to shark tales that have come before it with a pulse-pounding ending that will leave you speechless.
- Suicide Squad:
DC is not letting Marvel have all the fun in the comic book movie business. The 2nd installment of their one-two punch following Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad follows the worst of the worst supervillains the genre has to offer as they attempt to execute dangerous black ops missions.
